The iconic Bird of Paradise flower is a national symbol of Madeira. Its representation can be seen everywhere from cheap tourist trinkets to the wonderful Christmas street lights in Funchal.

The sub-tropical climate of Madeira means that the plant blooms more or less or the year round.

They can be seen in formal gardens or even just growing wild by the roadside. The yellow, beak-like flower rises like a proud emblem, defying all but the worst weather.

If you want to return home with a floral remembrance of your holiday, then you will find plenty of shops willing to package your plants suitable for your flight home. Alternatively, you can arrange to have some flowers sent by air freight to your chosen address.
