This helpful tourist map of Funchal is available for you to download free online.

All the main tourist attractions and places of interest are detailed and included in an easy to use side index.

The location of the most popular hotels in and around Funchal are also shown.

The routes of the two cable cars that take you up to Monte are shown delineated by two fine grey, parallel lines punctuated by green "T" symbols denoting the evenly spaced cable towers.

The route and finishing point of the Monte toboggan run is shown by a blue dashed line. It is labelled Carros de Cesto Tobbogan.

Sections of the fast Rapida highway, labelled Via à Cota 200, that run close to Funchal city centre are shown in yellow with a red border. If you hire a car during your stay in Madeira, the fastest and easiest way to get to and from places is by the Rapida highway.

Minor roads are shown in yellow.

Road tunnels are indicated by a dotted outline. Please note that, unlike many UK road maps, a dotted outline for a road does not indicate that this section was under construction when the document was produced.

Like any other capital city, the roads in and around Funchal can become congested. However, you will rarely find yourself delayed for long in a traffic jam.

Minor roads, those marked in yellow, are liable to be very narrow in places and of a poorer quality.
