The Youth Hostel at Calheta near Madeira's southwest coast offers cheap accommodation.
The actual building itself is a large, traditional Madeiran house. It has been adapted to meet the needs of the Youth Hostel and was opened in September 1995.
The minumum stay is for 1 night.
The maximum stay is 14 nights.
It is open all year round except for the Christmas period, 24th December through to 26th December.

Facilities
The hostel offers basic, but clean, accommodation with self catering facilities and a common room.
Only shared sleeping rooms are available, all fitted with bunk beds. There are two bedrooms with 6 beds each. One bedroom containing 8 beds and one bedroom containing 12 beds.
Silence should be observed between 12:30am to 7:00am
There is a small area available for parking. No charge is payable to use this facility.
No meals are provided, but the self-catering kitchen is available for general use.
Between 2:00pm and 4:00pm each day cleaning is undertaken and access to the building is strictly limited.

Road Directions
By Car:-
From Funchal, pick up the freeway (Via Rapida) heading west toward Ribeira Brava. When you are almost at Ribeira Brava, take the branch signposted to Ponta do Sol.
Beyond Ponta do Sol, follow the signposts to Calheta. You want continue pass Madalena do Mar.
You are on the New Western High Speed Road freeway (VE3).
Do not turn off to go toward the Calheta seafront. Instead, follow the road inland and follow the directions to Prazeres.
Before you get to Prazeres, you will see an exit on your right leading to Estreito da Calheta. Exit here and after a short distance join the ER233.
Follow the ER233 for about half a kilometer. Take the third minor road on your left which, after a short distance, brings you to the entrance of the Calheta Youth Hostel.
If you reach Estreito da Calheta Church, you have turned left too early. Turn back and rejoin the ER233.
If you reach a T-junction with the ER222, you have missed your left turn. Turn back and retracing your way, look for the first old road on your right.
